Jackie Talbot for Hamilton City Council East Ward
Born and bred in Hamilton, I’m proud to be standing for Hamilton City Council in the East Ward. I care deeply about the future of our city and your place in it. I was raised here, educated at Melville Intermediate and Melville High, and went on to Waikato University where I completed my teacher training and later a Master’s in Educational Leadership.
From teaching in local schools to leading national reform, I’ve spent over two decades in senior leadership roles in the Public Service, driving complex government projects, chairing boards, and managing multi-million dollar initiatives.

Our city is facing real challenges: 1.25 billion in debt, rising rates, and a growing disconnect between Council and community. I’m standing to restore financial responsibility and bring back focus to the people who pay the bills, our ratepayers. I will be accountable for every dollar spent and push for open, transparent decision-making backed by data, not politics.

I know Hamilton because I’ve lived it, raising my family here and dedicating my career to public service. I’ll bring that same commitment to Council, ensuring the voices of East Ward residents are heard and respected. I’ll increase community engagement, listen closely, and work alongside you to grow a city we’re proud of.

Financial Responsibility
Transparent, accurate budgeting and alternative funding to ease pressure on ratepayers
Smart decision making
Data-led, transparent decisions with clear risk analysis—no more decisions based on personality or politics
Community Engagement
Build trust and collaboration through open communication, and more neighbourhood engagement.
These three priority ways of working will result in :

Prioritise spending to keep the services that matter most to our communities
Infrastructure Investment
Tackle congestion and service gaps in rapidly growing neighbourhoods and maintain and update in others
Housing Development that works
Cut red tape to deliver more homes, faster- including in the inner city to bring our inner city to life

Clear, effective planning to address climate risk and safeguard our future
